She was cared for in \u003Cem>Temucuicui\u003C\u002Fem> because of fears based on prior experience that, if transferred to a hospital, she might later be accused of assault police.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Alerts that the recently inaugurated ‘Comando Jungla’ of the military police might enter the Mapuche community of Temucuicui in the district of Ercilla began circulating on social media around mid-day. The operation, which, according to sources within the community, was apparently carried out by armoured helicopters and armed police, left resident \u003Cstrong>Angélica Marilao\u003C\u002Fstrong> with a wound from shotgun pellets in her leg, which, the victim states, was inflicted by police at point-blank range.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>As reported by the electronic media outlet \u003Ca href=\"http:\u002F\u002Fwww.eldesconcierto.cl\u002F2018\u002F08\u002F07\u002Foperativo-de-comando-jungla-en-temucuicui-termino-con-mujer-herida-a-bala-un-policia-le-disparo-a-quemarropa\u002F\">\u003Cem>El Desconcierto\u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fa>, which spoke with community spokesperson \u003Cstrong>Jorge Huenchullán\u003C\u002Fstrong>, the wounded woman has thus far been cared for within the community ‘because we don’t trust the health system enough to take her to a doctor’s surgery, because it’s been our experience that \u003Cem>peñis\u003C\u002Fem>, brothers and sisters, who are brought in alive or seriously wounded are later accused of assault police. They play the victims and claim that they were attacked. We’ve had that experience already, and most people are cared for here by paramedics on a volunteer basis.’\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Jorge stated that he was unaware of the reasons for the raid, and that, at approximately 11 AM, a large police contingent entered the community and proceeded to the house of the family of \u003Cem>Werkén\u003C\u002Fem> \u003Cstrong>Walter Toris\u003C\u002Fstrong>.
